ASU Officer Placed On Leave Pending Review of Professor's Arrest

The officer who arrested Arizona State University professor Ersula Ore has been placed on administrative leave.

Officials with ASU are standing behind the results of their preliminary review that Officer Stewart Ferrin did not use excessive force or racial profiling when arresting Ore, who is African American, for jaywalking in May.

However, the university has involved the FBI in an ongoing investigation to determine if the ASU police officer violated Ore’s civil rights.

Local civil liberties organizations are calling for Ferrin to resign, saying Ore’s arrest was a result of racial profiling and that she was subjected to excessive force.
