Foster Farms Chicken Recalled

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced a recall on Foster Farms chicken products over the holiday weekend. Hundreds of people in 29 states have been affected by the outbreak, including 25 people from from Arizona.

The California-based company distributed potentially contaminated products to 11 states.

Jessica Rigler of the Department of Health Services said it should always be assumed that any food has some sort of bacteria and should be handled appropriately.

"I think the most important thing that people need to know is that if they properly handle their food, so they cook it well, wash their produce and make sure that they’re not cross-contaminating by putting fruits or vegetables on a cutting board that’s just had raw chicken or raw meat on it, they have a high likelihood of being safe from diseases," Rigler said.

The recalled chicken products were labeled with “use or freeze by” dates between March 16th through March 31st, 2014.
