The high temperature yesterday was 116 degrees. That heat caused Salt River Project to break a record for energy usage in the Valley.
Wednesday SRP hit a record using more than 6700 megawatts of energy for nearly one million customers. Overnight low temperatures Wednesday and Thursday only dropped to the mid 90’s. SRP spokesperson Scott Harelson said high overnight temperatures increase energy usage.
“As demand rises during the day, it lifts even higher because you’ve started that morning at such a high temperature where you already have customers using their air conditioner very early in the morning,” said Harelson.
Harelson expects levels to drop today and this weekend as temperatures continue to decrease.
