Valley Doctor Arrested At Airport For Pointing Gun At Two Women

Phoenix Police arrested a Tempe man last week at Sky Harbor for pointing an AR-15 rifle at two people in a waiting area. Sergeant Steve Martos says 54-year-old Peter Steinmetz was allowed to carry his gun into the area, but that he went too far.

“He then begins to remove the assault rifle off of his shoulder and in so doing then points his rifle at two females,” Martos said. “It was a mother and her 17-year-old daughter.”

Steinmetz is the director of the neuro-engineering program at Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s. The hospital issued a statement after the arrest, saying that it’s aware of the situation and taking it very seriously, but that it’s policy not to comment on ongoing HR matters.
