Arizona Pecan Sales Grow In Asia

Arizona pecan farmers are enjoying strong sales overseas. The state’s world market share for pecans has been increasing for nearly a decade.

Apparently Asia is going nuts over Arizona pecans.

The state's production increased 13 percent from 2012 to 2013 when Arizona sold almost 23 million pounds.

Arizona saw almost $43 million in pecan sales last year. That’s up dramatically from 2012. Arizona is now the nation’s fourth-largest pecan producer.

Sahuarita-based Farmers Investment Company is the state’s biggest pecan producer. A company official told the Arizona Daily Star that China has been purchasing Arizona’s pecans more aggressively for the past eight years.

That’s after the U.S. started promoting pecans as a healthy and affordable food.
