A new poll finds that Arizonans aren’t as confident about the economy as they were a few months ago, and that could have a big impact later this year.
Arizona’s Consumer Confidence Index reached its highest level in six years in April, according to the Behavior Research Center’s Rocky Mountain Poll. But the new index released Tuesday fell by 3.5 points.
Vice President Bruce Hernandez said there are two main things Arizonans are concerned about.
“Business conditions, both currently and in the future, they have some real qualms about that. And then also looking out into the future, a lot of pessimism about what the future job market looks like," Hernandez said.
And that pessimism could lead to slower retail sales during the all-important holiday shopping season.
Hernandez said the overall trend in consumer confidence in Arizona is positive, but that progress is slow.
