Unmanned aerial vehicles — better known as drones — have been banned at more national park land in the Southwest.
In June, the director of the National Park Services ordered all the parks in the system to take steps that would curb the use of the aircraft, which are becoming popular for taking photos and videos. Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona and Zion National Park in Utah have already moved to ban drones. Now, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks in southeastern Utah have also banned drones.
The two parks’ acting chief ranger says they create a problem for people looking for peace and quiet and disturb wildlife in the area. The ban also extends to the Natural Bridges National Monument near Lake Powell and the Hovenweep national monument in Colorado.
