Baby Animals Rescued From Storm Damage

Recent storms left a lot of damage and debris behind. It also left some orphaned wildlife.

A mule deer fawn was found wandering on a golf course in north Scottsdale last week. Tuesday, a baby skunk was found floating in flood waters in Surprise. Both are about a week old and in need of rehabilitation.

The animals were taken to the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center. The center works with rehabilitating animals to release them back into the wild. If the animals are not able to be released, the Center keeps and cares for them the rest of their lives.

“The fawn was dehydrated, so she wasn’t injured in any way, but she required some IV fluids," said Kim Carr with the center. "And the skunk, you know it looks a little rough around the edges, but considering what happened to him, you know, tumbling down the street in a raging river, it’s actually pretty miraculous that he even survived.”

Under Arizona Game and Fish Regulations, the fawn will have to stay at the sanctuary. The skunk is expected to be released back into the wild next spring.
