The Tempe Police Department will be looking for parties around Arizona State University starting Thursday night. It’s part of the Safe and Sober Campaign aimed at young people in Tempe.
Last year’s campaign focused on setting up DUI checkpoints around a two-square mile area east of ASU.
Mike Pooley of the Tempe Police Department says last year's campaign helped set the tone for the rest of the year.
“If we look at the number of calls for service for loud parties, it decreased significantly last year compared to the year before," Pooley said.
Tempe PD arrested more than 1,000 people and responded to more than 100 loud-party calls last year during the first three weeks of class at ASU.
