Just two days after heavy rain and flooding caused evacuations and shut down roadways, forecasters predict the Valley could see more thunderstorms Thursday evening. The National Weather Service says some areas could see strong winds, lightning and heavy rain. Washes and low-lying areas may flood.
Phoenix Fire Captain Ruben Saavedra said crews are ready for water rescues and other weather-related emergencies 24/7.
Saavedra said if residents are worried about flooding near their home, “We recommend that you come to the fire station, there’s ones around the Valley, bring your own bags and shovel, and make sandbags. You can have these at your house, and in the event that you get any type of flooding, we recommend putting the sandbags in front of any type of open barriers, because unfortunately that’s where a lot of the damage comes in is through the water damage when it enters your house.”
Saavedra said the significant rainfall this week makes flooding from a storm tonight more likely, since the ground is soaked and the water has nowhere to go.
