Earlier this week, supermarkets across the state pulled almond and peanut butter off their shelves due to possible salmonella contamination.
That’s a good thing, but Joli Weiss, an infectious disease expert, at the state’s health services department said consumers may not be in be the clear just yet.
"Peanut butter can last a while, so people need to be aware, look in their pantries, look in their refrigerator to see if they might have any of that product available and people can then go and look at the FDA webpage – they have a list of all of the recalled products– and if they do have that product, then it’s recommended that they throw it away," Weiss said.
So far, there have been no reported cases of salmonella in Arizona. Weiss said symptoms can include diarrhea, fever and body aches, and can last a couple of days.
