General Motors opened its Information Technology Innovation center in Chandler on Friday. The 170,000-square-foot facility is the company’s fourth in the United States.
Construction of the facility was completed earlier this summer. So far, GM has hired about 500 people to staff its IT innovation center. They plan to hire an additional 500 in the next five years.
The Chandler-based center will be used to develop in-house innovations. Company officials say the Valley area was chosen because of its low cost of living and saturation of qualified IT employees.
The center joins three other GM IT facilities already operating in Michigan, Texas and Georgia.
