Arizona State University announced Friday that it will form a task force to address sexual violence among students.
In May, ASU was named one of 55 schools under investigation by the Department of Education for its handling of sexual violence and harassment complaints. The task force will be made up of faculty, staff, students and members of the ASU Police Department.
ASU President Michael Crow said the school is committed to creating a “culture of respect.” It will be responsible for reviewing current guidelines, policies, support services and resources, as well as increasing awareness and education about sexual misconduct.
In a letter to students and staff, Crow said, “ASU is committed to combating this complex social problem and strives to foster a positive learning, working and living environment that promotes every individual’s ability to work and study without fear of sexual harassment or sexual violence.”
ASU will also be providing expanded education and training to staff and faculty to improve sexual violence prevention.
