Early Ballot Counting Begins In Arizona Counties

Counties across the state have started counting their early ballots ahead of next Tuesday’s primary election. Daniel Ruiz, with the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office, said in Maricopa County almost 1 million early ballots went out.

"We’ve received 322,000 returned to us and that’s a pretty good number considering we sent out 916,000," Daniel Ruiz said. "And we expect to see more returns come in over the weekend, on Monday and even on Tuesday."

In 2010, Maricopa County sent out a little more than 600,000 early ballots. Of those, almost 387,000 were returned. Early ballots are usually the first to be announced on election night.
