Maricopa County Election Officials Working To Finalize Primary Results

Maricopa County Elections officials will be working over the weekend to finalize results from Tuesday’s Primary Election. Three state legislative districts could be impacted.

County Recorder Helen Purcell says about 110-thousand early ballots were returned by mail close to Election Day, or dropped off at the polls on Election Day.

An estimated 64,000 of them remain to be tabulated, along with an estimated 10,000 provisional ballots.

The closest undecided legislative race is for the GOP nomination for the House, in District 15. Heather Carter has won the nomination for one seat. Incumbent Representative John Allen trails former state

Representative David Burnell Smith by 19 votes, for the other Republican nomination. Smith was removed from office for violating campaign finance laws in 2011.

In District 29, State Representative Lydia Hernandez leads Incumbent Senator Martin Quezada by 30 votes for the Democratic Senate nomination.

And Shawnna Bolick leads Mary Hamway by 182 votes in the race for the second Republican nomination for the House in District 28. Incumbent Kate Brophy McGee has been nominated for the other seat.
