How Can Law Enforcement Agencies Reflect The Communities They Serve?

The city of Phoenix is going to try to reduce a shortfall of law enforcement officers by hiring at least three hundred new police over the next three years. The initial additions will begin in March of next year.

But how much will those officers have in common with the residents they serve — especially when it comes to race and ethnic background?

Former Phoenix Assistant Police Chief Andy Anderson, now a law enforcement consultant, said departments across the country care about diversity.
