Making Golf Cool Again

Less than a decade ago, golf’s popularity had left stereotypes behind. Its country-club reputation had morphed into something a lot more mainstream.

But with Tiger Woods’ fall from grace, the number of people playing the game dropped dramatically before leveling off recently.

That’s led to some of the industry’s power brokers to push for changes — including making putting a lot easier by introducing 15-inch cups on the green. And a company called Top Golf is trying to make the game hipper for millennials by making it more party-centric.

We asked Ed Gowan, Executive Director of the Arizona Golf Association, whether the sport needs those changes.
