McCain Says U.S. Strategy Needed To Deal With Islamist Extremists In Iraq

Arizona Sen. John McCain continues to make the case that a U.S. strategy is needed to deal with Islamist extremists in Iraq. On the CBS show “Face the Nation,” Sunday, McCain said ISIS presents a much bigger threat to the United States than has been recognized.

“We now are facing the largest, most powerful, wealthiest terrorist organization in history and it’s gonna require some very strong measures to defeat them," McCain said.

McCain believes additional U.S. troops, are needed, but not ground combat soldiers. He says Special Forces soldiers, forward air controllers and advisers for training are needed to defeat the Islamists.

Influential Democrats also chimed in with their own critiques of the president’s foreign policy. In an interview on NBC, Sen. Diane Feinstein, D-Calif., chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee said the president is very cautious, maybe “too cautious” in his approach to stopping the Islamic State group.
