Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin has unofficially won the Republican primary for Arizona's 1st Congressional District after opponent Gary Kiehne conceded the race to him Tuesday. Unofficial vote totals from the Secretary of State’soffice show Andy Tobin won by a little more than 300 votes.
Tobin spoke with KJZZ last week on primary night. He said his campaign is largely about participation.
“It has been my focus to get youth out to vote. Especially in rural communities there is a lot of mobility. People are moving town to town trying to keep up with work. Getting them re-registered. That will continue to be a huge focus here for the next six weeks," Tobin said.
The official results of the primary will be declared next Monday. Arizona's 1st District includes most of the eastern part of the state, reaching from the Oro Valley to Page.
Tobin will run against Democratic incumbent Ann Kirkpatrick in the general election in November.
