A Valley Metro bus fell into a sinkhole earlier today following a water main break in Tempe.

The gushing water is under control now, but Lt. Michael Pooley of the Tempe Police Department said commuters will want to avoid McClintock Drive between Apache and University.

"There’s some significant damages out there, the roadway is going to have to be fixed, the water main break is going to have to be fixed, there’s a lot of things that have to be done. And again, it could take several days for it to get open," Pooley said.

The passengers and driver were evacuated, and there were no reports of serious injuries. No word yet as to what caused the water main break in the first place.
