Lawmakers Proposing Mandatory Background Checks For Hotel Workers

A Republican State Representative and a Democratic State Senator are proposing mandatory background checks for hotel workers in Arizona. Senator Katie Hobbs says the legislation is being sparked by the allegations of two women, who say the same night clerk sexually assaulted them at two different hotels.

“The brutal assault of these two women by one hotel employee is horrific and tragic. Their lives will never be the same because of this one person who has never, who should have never been in a position to violate their safety," Hobbs said.

Representative T.J. Shope being says right now there are no required checks for those working in the hotel industry, not even a required check of the sex offender registries.
