For the first time since the early 1990s, Salt River Project has canceled all the water orders for its customers through Wednesday.
Spokesman Jeff Lane said the three inches of rain the Valley got yesterday, made the decision easy. And, he said it could help the drought situation, too.
“You know we don’t normally get a lot of runoff during the summer months. It usually goes into the ground and it helps recharge the aquifer a little bit but this is a pretty significant amount so we’re hoping that it does help," Lane said.
Lane said in addition to canceling water deliveries, SRP was able to change some of the water in Valley canals. He said that allows SRP to help a little bit with flood control.
