A Phoenix church is cleaning up after yesterday’s storm. Its worship room was flooded and much of the furniture and equipment were destroyed.

Dozens of volunteers arrived to help clean up the Mountain Park Community Church in Ahwatukee Tuesday morning. Church officials said the auditorium-size worship room looked like a swimming pool after Monday’s storm. The wash just steps behind the building flooded and the overflow of water gushed into the church. The water surge was so strong it bent the steel doors and submerged everything inside, including audio and video equipment.

Half a dozen fans are strategically located throughout the room, airing it out while volunteers remove carpets and destroyed furniture.

“We won’t have the total estimates of damages for a few days, but if we're to just do a quick look around it’s millions," said Lani Willbanks, the church operations director.

Church officials are unsure how long it will take to completely get the room back to normal.
