It’s pretty dry outside the Arizona Humane Society on Dobbins Road near 15 th Avenue - finally. For about two days after Monday’s storm, there was a large pool of standing, brown water in front of the place.
Adoptions coordinator Carlie Maupin said this happens every time there’s a substantial rain. During this most recent storm, the adoptions hallway flooded after the roof leaked and the facility closed for a whole day. Even when it opened, closed roads kept many people away. But Maupin insisted this isn’t as bad as last month’s flood, when staff had to move some animals into offices.
"So that’s always a fun night - is sleeping over with the dog in the office," Maupin said. "But yeah, we make it work, we make it happen. We’ve got great staff, great volunteers who are on this side of Dobbins, who can still get to us, so that’s nice."
Maupin said these last two floods haven’t injured any of their animals, but have damaged bedding, food, toys and other items.
