Nogales Cleans Up After Storm Damage

Heavy rains and flooding left a mess in the city of Nogales, but the city was left relatively unscathed.

Cloudy skies dominated the horizon in Nogales Thursday morning as crews began the task of cleaning up following heavy rains. The city, which sits downhill from Nogales-Sonora, bore the brunt of the remnants of Huricane Odile. Still, it could have been worse. Artuor Garino is the mayor of Nogales.

"The runoff is very quick. As fast as it comes in; that’s as fast as it goes, so it doesn’t stay around," Garino said. "We dodged a bullet last night. It was very bad, I mean, it rained all day and we were all very worried."

Garino hopes his city has a chance to dry out. The forecast calls for more rain later today.
