The U.S. Geological Survey says the heavy rains in southeastern Arizona, appear to have produced record run-off in the San Pedro River. Jim Leenhouts of USGS says measurements show the river was flowing at a rate of 18,000 cubic feet per second.
“The highest measurement we’d taken previously, was in October of the year 2000, and it was about 15,600 cubic feet per second. So, that was you know 14 years ago and this is a significantly bigger event,” Leenhouts said.
Leenhouts says it’s rare for the San Pedro to be flowing bank to bank but shows why rivers can be dangerous to be around in they’re in a flood stage.
