The University of Phoenix Stadium has more than 300 new LED lights. The stadium replaced the 700-plus halide lights in time for last Sunday’s NFL game. Stadium spokesman Scott Norton said the new lights are better for pictures, the environment and, of course, the pocketbook.
“There is a cheaper cost to replace them, but on average they use a lot less power that the old metal halide fixtures and they give off less heat and will offset some of the air-conditioning,” said Norton.
The stadium expects to save up to 70 percent in electricity consumption. Norton said this is the first NFL stadium to switch exclusively to LED lights. The upgrade is in time for the 2015 Super Bowl that will be in at the stadium in Glendale in February.
