Gov. Brewer Headed To Europe To Boost Trade

Gov. Jan Brewer is headed to Europe this week in hopes of boosting trade with Arizona. Her first stop will be Norway, a country that is about 35th as a trading partner with Arizona, far behind places like Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Gubernatorial spokesman Andrew Wilder said there has been an increase in Norwegian trade, from about $31 million in 2008 to $93 million a year last year. But he said national figures show there’s still room for improvement

“Exports between the U.S. and Norway is nearly $200 billion. Imports just under $150 billion. And we'd like to, you know, get a bigger piece of that pie," Wilder said.

Wilder said Arizona exports things like navigational equipment, control instruments, communications ear and fabricated metals to Norway and gets aerospace products and parts back. Before heading home, Brewer plans to try to drum up some business in Ireland and stop for a speech on Arizona at the Oxford Union Society.
