Federal Money To Fix Arizona Tribal Housing

Grand Canyon

A settlement is in the works in a lawsuit filed by a concessionaire over a lucrative contract at the Grand Canyon.

The federal government is giving $60 million to tribal communities across the nation. Some of that money is coming to Arizona.

The Havasupai Tribe in northern Arizona is one of the nine tribes getting the money. The tribe will get nearly $400,000 to remove mold from 10 homes in its village at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

This is the first time money from the Indian Community Development Block Grant program will be used for mold in lower income housing. The fungus is a problem in the tribal community because of flooding and overcrowding.
