On Monday, ASU hosted the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition, focusing on the international opportunities that Arizona organizations have for global development.
On hand were Sen. John McCain, Intel Foundation Chairman Shelly Esque and ASU President Michael Crow who discussed how research institutions need to be global in nature.
“The institution must be global in terms of its incoming students and workforce," Crow said. "Global in terms of its exchange activities and the problems that is works on. Global in terms of the knowledge network that its a part of. So now its basically just a core condition of operation.”
The focus of the meeting was to discuss the impact on global trade and innovation affecting Arizona’s economic health. Last year, Arizona exported more than $19 billion in goods and services, supporting about 20 percent of the state’s workforce.
