The Winchester Unit of the state prison in Tucson is locked down this morning after a fight Wednesday night that left two inmates and an officer injured.
Corrections department spokesman Bill Lamoreaux said 80 of the 600 inmates in the medium security unit were either involved or at least gathered around those who were fighting,
“Staff responded immediately. Stopped it quickly, preventing serious injuries and thankfully only the one officer received a laceration. He received stitches for that and is doing well,” Lamoreaux said.
Lamoreaux said even though the unit is locked down, plans are to still have visitation, although in a more controlled environment than usual over the weekend.
