ADOT: Highway Connecting Phoenix, Las Vegas Could Boost Economic Development

The Arizona Department of Transportation has completed a two-year study of the benefits of building an interstate highway to connect Phoenix and Las Vegas.

Spokeswoman Laura Douglas said I-11 would facilitate jobs, economic development, trade and commerce and be heavy on freight traffic.

“This is really being planned out as a multi-modal corridor to really boost economic development and connectivity to other major markets for Arizona, to really get Arizona into the major game of global connectivity and global marketplace,” Douglas said.

Douglas said the highway would generally follow the path of U.S. 93, from the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge through Wickenburg, run west of Phoenix and follow the I-10, I-19 alignment to Nogales.
