The Moquitch 2 prescribed burn is scheduled to start the week of October 13, weather permitting.

United States Forest Service rangers will burn parts of the Kaibab National Forest. These prescribed fires are intended to protect and preserve the forest.

2,486 acres in the north part of the Kaibab National Forest west of Arizona State Route 67 will be burned. This area has mostly Ponderosa pine and aspen trees. Burning some vegetation is important to the ecosystem and lowers the risk of extreme wildfires.

Weather permitting, this burn is scheduled to start this week. There are at least three other prescribed fires planned in the North Kaibab Ranger District.
