A Republican representative from Tucson is calling on his caucus to seriously consider making the recreational use of marijuana legal in Arizona.
State Rep. Ethan Orr says lawmakers should consider legalizing pot use as a better alternative to the initiative petition that’s already underway.
“Even if the law was identical to what came out through the initiative process, if you make a mistake, and you will, you’re able to change it if you do it through legislative action," Orr said.
State law requires a three-quarters vote of the Legislature to change language in an initiative petition, while a new law could be changed with a majority vote.
Orr says the latest polling shows 58 percent of state voters support the legalization of marijuana.
