The Border Patrol said it rescued an undocumented immigrant from Mexico and one from Guatemala after the two became dehydrated and couldn’t keep up with others in their group in the mountains west of Arivaca.
Spokesman Pete Bidegain says the two had been abandoned by the smugglers bringing them into the U.S.
“The desert’s dangerous no matter what time of year you’re looking at," Bidegain said. "Obviously in the summer months we have the extreme heat but even now there’s not, you know there’s not, natural water sources out there.”
Bidegain said because of the location and their medical condition, agents called in a DPS helicopter to transport the two to emergency vehicles that were waiting in the area .
