Printing Error Affects A Thousand Early Ballots

A printing error is being blamed for hundreds of mismarked early ballots. The Maricopa County Recorder’s Office said some ballots had the wrong names on the return envelopes. That means the voters’ signatures wouldn't match the name on the envelope and would have voided the votes. County recorder Helen Purcell said her office is sending out new ballots.

"With an insert inside telling them what happened and telling them to vote this ballot even if they have already voted because the first ballot will be voided," Purcell said.

Purcell said the printer estimates that about 1,000 ballots were affected by the printing error. About 1.3 million ballots will be printed for next month’s election.
