Dozens of school board elections around the Valley are being canceled due to a lack of candidates.
But Timothy Ogle of the School Boards Association said the number of canceled elections is not much different than in the past several years.
“These are jobs that take a lot of time and energy, aren’t financially rewarding and you have to be willing to have passion for your community and be willing to put skin in the game," Ogle said.
Ogle said school districts cancel the elections to save money, since an unopposed candidate can be appointed to the job anyway.
