Head Of Arizona's Department Of Administration Fired After Complaint

Records show Gov. Jan Brewer fired her Department of Administration director a day after a female employee complained that he had made inappropriate comments.

The redacted documents were released by state officials Thursday under a public records request. They show the woman complained that Brian McNeil made repeated comments about her race and sexuality that created a hostile work environment. She said she had taped several of their meetings and that her efforts to get help from a department human resources employee were rebuffed.

The woman complained to federal equal employment officials, consulted with an attorney and then complained to Brewer's office last Thursday. McNeil was fired Friday.

McNeil spent two decades in state government, including time he worked as an analyst for the Legislature and as a policy adviser to former Gov. Fife Symington.
