Phoenix Man Sentenced To 18 Years In The Death Of Former ASU Football Player

A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to nearly two decades behind bars in the death of a former Arizona State University football player.

Ian Alexander MacDonald will serve 18 years for the Jan. 2013 stabbing of Tyrice Thompson outside the Martini Ranch nightclub in Scottsdale. Prosecutors say MacDonald stabbed Thompson, who was a bouncer at the club, five times in the hip, arm and back after a fight.

Thompson died from his injuries several days later. MacDonald pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. He was convicted of manslaughter in August of this year. Thompson played for the Sun Devils as a tight end and a receiver from 2003 to 2007.
