Groups Prepare To Assist With Next ACA Open-Enrollment Period

The next open-enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act begins in mid-November and groups that help people through the process are training staffers to counsel them.

With about 100 different insurance plans available in each Arizona county, Patti Urias of Enroll America Arizona says hiring and training counselors to help with the enrollment process can be crucial.

“It can be something that's a little bit intimidating if you're not really sure what types of questions to ask, or what sorts of things you need to be looking at in terms of selecting a plan," Urias said.

Urias says about half the people who sign up under the ACA have not had health coverage for five years or more.

More than 120,000 Arizonans enrolled during the first open-enrollment period and Urias expects brisk business in the period from Nov. 15 to Feb. 15, as competition among providers intensifies.
