The Maricopa County Attorney’s office is going to pursue charges against Shanesha Taylor because she missed a court mandated deadline to fund two trusts for her children.
Taylor left her kids in her car while she interviewed for a job last spring. The state agreed to drop child abuse charges if Taylor split $60,000 from a publicly funded donation of more than $100,000 into an education and childcare trust.
According to her attorney Benjamin Taylor (no relation to Shanesha Taylor), Shanesha wanted to renegotiate the amount of the trusts because she doesn’t have a job and steady income yet.
“She’s concerned about her future," Benjamin Taylor said. "Once the money goes into the trust, education trust, she cannot touch it, it goes until the kids are 18 years old. She cannot touch that money. The benefits right now that she needs is to be able to care for her children.”
The attorney said Shanesha has been applying for jobs to no avail. The agreement is expected to be presented at court Wednesday morning. If she refuses to comply with the agreement she could face criminal prosecution.
