If you’ve spent any time outside recently, it will not be a surprise to hear Maricopa County has been dealing with a lot of mosquitoes. And that means more than red bumps on your arms — it means West Nile Virus.

The county’s environmental services department reports so far this year, it’s had 192 positive samples for West Nile, there were 139 all of last year. There have been 65 human cases and eight deaths from West Nile this year, each is higher than last year’s total.

Johnny Dilone is a spokesman for the Maricopa County Environmental Services Department.
