Bond Set In Death Of Chandler Police Officer

Bond has been set at $750,000 for a Tempe man who struck and killed a Chandler police officer with his car last week.

Court records say 31-year-old Brian Yazzie was driving on a suspended license and had a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit when he allegedly struck and killed Officer David Payne.

Yazzie was arrested early Friday on suspicion of manslaughter, endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident with a death.

He allegedly collided with the back of Payne's motorcycle, which was stopped at a red light.

Police reports state that Yazzie was driving with a suspended license following a previous DUI arrest and had a 0.291 percent breath alcohol concentration when officers stopped him.

Payne was 37 years old.
