Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery said that he is losing patience with Shanesha Taylor, the mother who left her children in the car when she went to a job interview.
The county attorney's office charged her with child abuse. She said she didn't have child care. Donations poured in from all around the country to help her.
Montgomery's office brokered a deal with Taylor and his lawyer to put a portion of the donations she received toward education trust funds and a fund for child care for her children to avoid prosecution. On Tuesday, Montgomery said Taylor needs to put $40,000 into these funds, but has not yet done so.
"If she thinks she can drag this out any further, she is grossly mistaken and she is exercising the same lack of judgement as she did when she left her children in the car to begin with," Montgomery said.
Montgomery said this deal is Taylor’s last chance to avoid being prosecuted for child abuse. He said the $40,000 figure includes $10,000 in education funds for each of her three children, plus an additional $10,000 for child care.
