Number of Female Farmers In Arizona Among Highest In The Country

The U.S. Agriculture Department’s Ag census has all kinds of interesting tidbits in it, including that in seven of Arizona’s 15 counties, at least a quarter of farms are principally owned by women.

That’s among the highest rates in the country. Julie Murphree with the Arizona Farm Bureau says it’s impressive. She referenced Janna Anderson, who owns and operates Pinnacle Farms in Laveen and Waddell.

Anderson grows produce and heritage wheats and grains and has been farming since about 2000. I asked her how she got started.
