Maricopa Integrated Health System is poised to become the state’s first Infectious Disease Treatment Center of Excellence. That means if Arizona has to deal with an Ebola case, MIHS will be where that patient likely ends up.
Chief Medical Officer Robert Fromm said the hospital’s Board of Directors agreed to the request from county and state health officials.
Fromm said MIHS has been preparing to deal with an Ebola case for several months and that the decision means his hospital will get more resources, including expertise and gear.
Also, the Governor’s Council on Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response had its second meeting today. State Health Services Director Will Humble chairs the panel. I asked him if it had identified a second hospital that could deal with potential Ebola patients.
