Mexican Gray Wolf Deaths Investigated In New Mexico

The deaths of two Mexican gray wolves in New Mexico are being investigated. The animals were part of a controversial reintroduction effort in western New Mexico and eastern Arizona.

There are now 59 collared Mexican gray wolves left in the region, according to the latest update on the reintroduction effort by the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

The department is looking into the recent wolf deaths, but also several livestock deaths - including one that might be linked to wolves.

The wolf reintroduction program has been hampered over the years by politics and illegal killings. Environmentalists and ranchers have often clashed over the issue.

Rewards are offered for information leading to the conviction of people responsible for the shooting deaths of Mexican gray wolves.
