Tucson Apartment Towers Agree To Eviction For Residents Disrupting Islamic Center

Apartment managers and Tucson city councilmembers are taking action to stop students from disrupting the Islamic Center Of Tucson near the University of Arizona campus.

The Cardinal Group and Core Campus are the two companies that manage the buildings next to the Islamic Center of Tucson. Both companies agreed to evict students who are caught throwing bottles and other objects off their balconies onto the grounds of the Islamic Center.

Tucson City Councilmember Steve Kozachik said, "We tried the fines, $1,000 fine, but the demographics of these students is such that mommy and daddy pay the fine anyway so we are just going for eviction.”

Kozachik said if the resident throwing the items can’t be identified, anyone with access to the balcony could be evicted and he is also focused on punishing residents retroactively.

"Some of the members of the Islamic center have video on their cell phone. And agreed tonight that management is going to sit down with that video and if we can identify that location we are going to up to the room and have this conversation,” he said.

The apartment managers also agreed to stop hosting outdoor concerts and parties on the roof of the towers.
