Arrest Warrant For Newly Elected Representative Dropped

An arrest warrant for a newly elected state representative has been dropped, after outstanding fines were paid.

Representative-elect Ceci Velasquez was facing $2000 in fines. They’d been levied in Florence Municipal Court for driving on a suspending license, for driving a vehicle with a suspended registration and for not having required insurance for the vehicle. But on Monday, the fines were paid.

The Arizona Capitol Times reports a friend who was a campaign volunteer for Velasquez paid them.

In a statement, the Litchfield Park Democrat apologized for the stress she caused her family, friends, caucus members and residents of district 29. She also said she understands how financial distress, medical issues and the struggles of single mothers can be overwhelming, adding those circumstances snowballed for her and that she failed to meet her obligations.
