Republican Superintendent of Public Instruction-elect Diane Douglas beat most odds in winning her new position.
She beat incumbent John Huppenthal in the GOP primary and then defeated Democrat David Garcia in the general election earlier this month--even as a number of people in the Republican establishment supported Garcia.
There's already a Facebook page devoted to recalling Douglas, who won't even take office until the New Year.
So how much of an impact can Douglas have as superintendent? And, more generally, what is the state of Arizona's K-12 school system?
